Our Horses
Thredbo Valley Horse Riding prides itself on working horses that are proven to have great character and big personalities, with a loyal nature. We have listed a few of our horses below, so you can get some background information on them. You will see that we love our horses - and you will too! Who knows? You may even get to meet and ride your favourite horse when you book in with us for a truly unique bush experience at Thredbo Valley Horse Riding.
KB - Clydesdale Cross
TVHR was lucky enough to obtain KB when he was very young. He needed a home which we were incredibly happy to provide. KB is named after Nev’s late Grandfather. Although he is a rather large fellow, his personality is that of a big cuddly Labrador! KB continues to be a favourite amongst all of our guests from children to avid riders.
Dude
Brumby (caught from the wild). This fellow is a fair dinkum, true blue, genuine Australian Snowy Mountain Brumby with a huge personality. He is a big sook with a big heart and everyone loves him.
Vortex
Vortex came to us as a 4 week orphan, who has grown up to be one fine young lady. She knows she is pretty but has the work ethic of a trooper! Vortex is going from strength to strength within the herd and will be “boss” mare in no time with the nurturing instinct of a matriarch.
William
Snowy Mountains Stock Horse (locally bred). This young lad has truly unique blood lines. His mother is a Snowy Mountains Brumby and his father is a Thoroughbred Racehorse. William is a testament to the traditional breed of horse ridden by the legendary stockmen of the Snowy Mountains. William is quiet, gentle and lovable. He is the poster-boy for many media events.
Aussie
Australian Stock Horse (locally bred). This little Aussie legend was purposely bred by Thredbo Valley Horse Riding for his good looks, trainability and lovable personality. Aussie is capable of taking any ability of rider, from a safe pony ride to a truly unique bush experience.
Gangster
Standard bred (trotter). Gangster is a big black, strong, forward moving horse. We were lucky enough to obtain Gangster after he retired from the trotting industry where he had a successful career under the alias “Broadband Longbow”. He is an imposing character by looks, but a big 'sooky, sooky, la-la' at heart.
Lucky – Stud Book Quarter Horse
Lucky came to us from the city of Canberra. As it turns out, he loves the bush life! Lucky has an amazing education in many disciplines and is an absolute pleasure to ride.
Pipsqueak – Appaloosa Cross Brumby
This little filly is an absolute ripper! She was the very first horse we started under saddle specifically for clients at TVHR. Cheeky of character but loves people. Loved by many. Her brumby traits still shine through.
Cider
A lovely young mare that was bred specifically to be used at Thredbo Valley Horse Riding. Cider takes everyone from young to old, beginners to advanced riders. She has proved herself time after time by being involved in film shoots, Anzac Day parades, team penning, pony club and the Man from Snowy River Festival.
Boofhead
One of Thredbo Valley Horse Ridings older gentleman. Boofhead has provided many unique experiences, especially for children and nervous riders. He is one of our most treasured team members with a beautiful soul that everyone adores.
Boss - Guide Horse
¼ Brumby x ¼ Polo Horse x ½ Snowy Mountains Stock Horse
“The Boss Man” is of truly unique genes. He has attitude, presence and a big personality and he knows he is good! He is a people horse on the ground, but one hell of a ride. Come and see him in action.
Mimosa - Guide Horse
Quarter Horse x Thoroughbred. This lovely young lady was purpose bred by Thredbo Valley Horse Riding. Director (Nev Barrass) had hoped that she would be his next super star…. And she is. Mimosa as a two year old has already stolen the hearts of whoever gets to meet her, especially when she performed her large range of tricks at a series of local shows. She is most certainly one of a kind.
Retirees
Thredbo Valley Horse Riding prides itself on caring for all our horses - especially our paddock full of retirees. These old fellas are being cared for and loved by close friends Peter and Paula Gidley of “The Overflow”. These old fellows (the horses that is!) have earned their retirement and deserve the best of homes…… by golly they have it made. Our sincerest thanks to Peter and Paula.
